About us

Lines a Day is a side project created by me, David Buxton.

I am a startup founder and father of two. Lines a Day is financed out of my own pocket. It's not intended to be a big business, although I will endeavor to make it self-sustaining if it begins to require meaningful resources.

Why I created Lines a Day

Every day, my kids do stuff that I haven't seen before. Sometimes I think, "I want to remember this on my deathbed". But memories seem to evaporate and when I look back on the last week, let alone the last year, so much is just gone.

For years I've written a line-a-day journal every night before going to sleep. It's a great discipline and I love the physical connection of putting pen to paper.

I love the form factor of a multi-year diary view. Having a limited space makes it easy to keep the discipline of writing every day, and being able to see entries from previous years encourages reflection.

Over the years I've given dozens of line-a-day diaries to friends because I think everyone should be doing it.

Lines a Day is intended as a gift to designed to give the best compromise between simplicity of use (once a day, limited-length, email journalling), richness of content (you can include photos and videos) and durability (you can't lose it on a train).

What about a physical diary?

I have now moved over to electronic journalling. But if you want a physical diary, I strongly recommend the Leuchtturmm Some lines a day journals for pen-and-ink writing.

A note on privacy

Although this is a side project, it's one I use myself and so designed with privacy and security from the ground up.

Your data is stored encrypted using your own personal encryption key. That key is not directly readable by us, so even if we wanted to we wouldn't be able to read your data.

Happy journalling!
